I agree, the Ubuntu Desktop is getting better with each release although my verdict is still out on the Unity interface. I still have my old Laptop set up with Ubuntu for when I want to experiment, it sadly doesn't often get turned on these days.

Thanks for the Homebrew link, that looks great! I have been compiling stuff from source and using downloads from http://rudix.org/ to get some of the unix tools not available in OS X.

Sounds good. I'm using OS X as my main Desktop as well since a few weeks, with Ubuntu on the Netbook. Not using any of the other Apple-y stuff, though ;) If you want to have a good package manager, try Homebrew from http://mxcl.github.com/homebrew/ - it's a bit more simplistic and sane than things like MacPorts or Fink. I do think that Ubuntu might become an option in a year or two (if they want) when they've cleaned up the Linux Desktop and hopefully switched to Wayland.

<a href="#comment-7412" rel="nofollow">@Chester Kat </a>
I have been running svn-1696 for years and have not had any stability issues at all. If I were you I would go with this on your new machine.

How's svn-1696 compare to svn-1586 in your opinion? I had great luck with svn-1586 and had stability issues with some later versions. I'm setting up a new machine and am very interested in your opinion on this...

Thanks...

If you have added the key to an ssh-agent, you can even leave out the "-i /path/to/publickey" part of the command, and it will copy all the keys that are currently added to the agent (which can be seen with ssh-add -L): ssh-copy-id @
